TRENDS Research and Advisory concluded a busy African tour, which included Kenya, Ethiopia and Egypt. The main aim of the visit was to encourage cooperation with some of the most prominent research institutions in those countries, and promote research in the field of African studies. The visits enhanced research and mutual knowledge exchanges between the region and the African continent.
Trends Pavilion at the Nairobi International Book Fair won the award for Best International Stand. The award represents a recognition for Trends’ diverse and balanced research output displayed at the Stand as well as the Center’s forward-looking global vision.
Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of Trends Research and Advisory, said that the Award for Trends as best stand at the Nairobi Book Fair confirms the center’s global position and the right vision of the Center. He stressed the determination to strengthen the scientific research drive for spreading the values of coexistence and tolerance, and explore new fields to anticipate the future and even participate in making it.
Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali said that this tour confirms the role of the TRENDS as credible research center and enhance its comprehensive global vision. TRENDS research vision is based on the significance of sharing ideas, expertise and research knowledge experiences with experts and peer research institutions in all countries and especially with those in the African continent.
Dr. Al-Ali said that the African tour covered three main stations. TRENDS held dialogues, talks, research seminars, and concluded cooperation agreements that promote joint research and forward-looking studies, which focus on relevant issues and analyze events of interest to the African continent, understand them and develop visionary solutions to them.
Dr. Al-Ali stressed that TRENDS Center will continue to strengthen research cooperation mechanisms with African research centers and institutions. He stressed that TRENDS Center will follow and study the emerging issues of the African continent, in close cooperation with the people of the continent, and continue the Center’s qualitative and effective presence in regional and global research forums. He explained that this track exemplifies TRENDS' strategy of strengthening its research partnerships around the world. It helps the Center achieve its role of spreading and disseminating scientific and research knowledge, from an Arab and Gulf perspective in all international forums.
Kenya station witnessed cooperation discussions with five institutes and research centers including: the Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), the Global Centre for Policy and Strategy (GLOCEPS), the Horn International Institute for Strategic Studies, and the Centre for Climate Change, Migration and Development and its Centre for Peace. In collaboration with the Horn Institute, TRENDS has organized a symposium on climate change, COP28 and an African vision on countering extremism.
In Nairobi, TRENDS Research and Advisory signed a cooperation agreement with the Botho Emerging Markets Group, which focused on relations between the two sides in the fields of scientific research.
TRENDS concluded its visit to Kenya by participating with a special stand in the Nairobi International Book Fair, where it organized a panel discussion on a topic of great importance, which is "Constraints to the spread of renewable energy in Africa". A number of distinguished officials, academics and publishers visited the pavilion, where they were briefed on TRENDS' research output. The visitor appreciated the intellectual efforts and future vision of TRENDS Center.
Ethiopia was the second stop in TRENDS African tour. The visit to this country included dialogues and research cooperation discussions with the Institute of Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University (IPSS), the Horn Institute for Economic and Social Policy (HESPI), the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) of the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Institute for Policy Studies (PSI) in the capital, Addis Ababa.
TRENDS participated in a regional conference organized by the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA), entitled "Security Dynamics in the Red Sea: The Need for Dialogue and Cooperation in a Time of Global Connectedness". Dr. Al-Ali, the CEO of TRENDS Research and Advisory, delivered a speech before the audience, in which he stressed the prominence of the African continent and the role of think tanks in promoting international cooperation and exploring emerging events with a balanced vision for the future.
TRENDS Research and Advisory launched its virtual office in Cairo, as part of its efforts to expand its reach as a knowledge bridge and a link with regional and international think tanks.
TRENDS Center and the Information and Decision Support Center at the Egyptian Cabinet also signed a cooperation protocol aimed at enhancing scientific, research and academic cooperation between the two parties in areas and issues of common interest.
TRENDS Center also reviewed the prospects for cooperation with the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services.
TRENDS concluded its African tour and proceeded to participate in Riyadh International Book Fair. TRENDS is participating for the third time in the Riyadh International Book Fair. The Trends delegation shall then proceed to Germany for another participation in the Frankfurt International Book Fair. This engagement is part of TRENDS’ effort to enhance its vision and confirm its active international presence as an independent knowledge research center.
