Trends Research and
Advisory announced that it will launch in conjunction with the Conference of
the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
(COP28), which kicks off on Thursday, November 30, an artwork tool that
combines art and environmental awareness, called "Transcendence". The interactive cube will be launched in the
green zone of Expo City Dubai, to highlight the significance of preserving the
environment and confronting climate change.
Designer Roudha Al Mazrouei explained that the artwork is a 4×3m interactive cube with an entry and exit points, which includes sustainable materials approved by the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative. The project have been fitted with the latest climate science information and promote the best practices in reducing harmful emissions and achieving zero neutrality goals.
Roudha Al Mazrouei
explained that the exterior of the Transcendence Cube is characterized by
bi-color panels, reflecting the surrounding environment. The color changes
based on light and scenery, symbolizing the dynamic nature of our environment,
and the diverse perceptions of climate change. The natural moss panel was
chosen because of its flexibility, ability to adapt, live and grow, and its
ability to withstand the volatile changes of nature. The thermally active
material panel, which changes color with a human touch, reflects the handprints
of the Stone Age. It highlights, in a figurative sense, the human impact on the
environment.
Al Mazrouei indicated that the cube includes a camera that detects thermal activity, which enhances interaction in real time, and shows how presence and movement within Transcendence affect the environment. This encourages people to develop a sense of direct participation and responsibility towards the environment. The artwork is surrounded by olive trees, which represent peace, continuity and sustainability, in a message that emphasizes the coexistence of humans and nature.
Dr. Mohammed Abdullah
Al-Ali, CEO of Trends Research and Advisory, said in a press conference held at
the center's headquarters, in the presence of the cube’s designer and a group
of researchers, experts and media, that the launch of the art work "Transcendence"
in "COP28" is a significant
contribution by Trends to promote environmental awareness and contribute to the
efforts of confronting climate change, promoting art role in the field of environment,
climate change and sustainability.
Dr. Al-Ali added that the artwork is part of a comprehensive roadmap drawn by Trends Research and Advisory that accompanies the conference events. This innovative invention delivers a message of tangible sensory experience. It has educational value and inspiring nature, and encourages us to reflect on our role in shaping the future of our planet. It also exemplifies the extent to which contemporary art can influence environmental awareness.
"Transcendence"
is a profound tool in the intersection of climate anthropology, art and
environmental science, Al-Ali said. It is also a call for hard work, reminding
us of our ancestors' connections to the land and demonstrates the power of art
in delivering important messages about climate change.
Dr. Al-Ali explained that "Transcendence" will provide an interesting and interactive experience for delegates, audiences and visitors to "COP28", during the period from December 3 – 12, 2023. It is designed to leave an impact on people of different ages and genders, where they can experience it by just looking at it or touching it. The artistic effect on each individual vary, and the goal is to enhance the role of the individual in society, and promote thinking to create a new culture and research philosophy, that boosts environmental awareness and confront climate change.
Dr. al-Ali said COP28 is
a unique opportunity to unite the world towards a common goal of a sustainable
future for our planet, protect it and promote collective climate action.
Trends' participation in
COP28 also includes a number of scientific events and panel discussions. The
Center will launch and display a number of studies and research on climate and
sustainability issues.
