Trends Research and Advisory launches the artistic icon "Transcendence" at the COP28 to promote environmental awareness

TRENDS Research and Advisory launched the artistic icon "Transcendence", which mixes awareness and creativity, and addresses minds before sight on climate, environment and sustainability issues. The launching event took place at the green zone of the (COP28), which will continue until December 12, at Expo City Dubai.

The event was attended by a wide range of officials, media and artists. A Large audience of those interested in artwork, the environment, climate action and sustainability attended the event. They expressed their admiration for the simple composite idea of the work that reflects many ideas and carries various messages, to reduce the effects of climate change on the environment.

Created by Emirati designer Rawdha Al Mazrouei, Transcendence comes in the form of an interactive cube measuring 4 × 3 meters with an entrance slot and an outlet. It has bi-color panels that reflect the surrounding environment and they change according to light and scenery. It is made up of natural and sustainable materials, which indicates that art is still is environmentally friendly, and can simply deliver scientific and cognitive messages to different audiences.

The creative work carries a message that urges coexistence between humans and nature, and contains a painting of natural seaweed that symbolizes flexibility and adaptability. There is a panel of thermally active materials that change color by touch, and demonstrates the human impact on the surrounding environment and the persistent role of human being in the climate change phenomena. The model was also equipped with a camera that detects thermal activity, to show how human presence, movement and interaction within the artwork affect the surrounding environment.

 

The language of art

Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of Trends Research and Advisory, said that art is the most effective way to make fundamental changes in the surrounding world. In fact, art has a universal language capable of building awareness, shaping mindsets and raising awareness about emerging issues, crises and conflicts on earth. Indeed, art can also deliver information and clarify the message easily through attractive colors and materials used in creative designs.

Supporting climate action

Dr. Al-Ali stressed that the launch of the unique and creative work "Transcendence" is part of the Trends’ center's busy calendar of events and activities at the COP28 conference, which bears the slogan "We share to create a sustainable future with green knowledge.” The artwork aims primarily to support climate action and sustainable development efforts, promote environmental awareness, and raise awareness of the extreme phenomena of climate change. He added that Trends Research and Advisory believes that the spirit of art is able to offer solutions to the climate change crisis through creative works.

The CEO of Trends Research and Advisory indicated that the artworks deliver several core messages that can change a lot in the world. For instance, they can enhance environmental awareness, introduce the concepts of sustainability, support climate efforts, reduce the carbon footprint, and embody the dangers of climate change on humanity. Artworks promote awareness and deliver warning messages in various forms.

 

Sustainable Materials

Emirati designer Rawdha Al Mazrouei said that the Transcendence artwork, created by her, consists of sustainable and recycled materials approved by the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative. The design keeps abreast with the latest environmental and climate sciences, and promote the best practices in reducing harmful carbon emissions and achieving net zero emissions targets by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

She indicated that the innovative artistic model is characterized by bicolor panels that reflect the surrounding environment, and their colors change with the change of light and scenery, in an indication of the dynamic nature of the environment. It reflects the diverse perceptions of climate change. She added that she chose the natural seaweed painting due to its resilience and ability to adapt, grow and withstand the fluctuations of nature. The thermally active materials panel, whose color changes in response to human touch, reflects the fingerprints of the Stone Age and indicates the human impact on the environment.
