Trends Research and Advisory has
released a new study entitled "Sixty Years of the Munich Security
Conference: agenda, issues and unspoken issues." The study analyses the issues
discussed in the Munich Security Conference, which was held between February
16-18, 2024, in a complex and uncertain global strategic context.
The study was conducted by Dr.
Yousry Ahmed Al-Azbawi, an expert in political affairs at Trends, and
researcher Aisha Al-Rumaithi, Director of the Research Department. It discussed
many issues, including: Sixty years since the establishment of the Munich
Security conference, covering the history of the Munich Security Conference
since 1963, and its development to become one of the most important
international forums to discuss security issues.
The study addresses the most
important issues in the annual report of the conference for 2024, highlighting
issues such as the war in Ukraine, tension in the Middle East, and the role of
Europe in the world.
The study explored the issues
that were not receive much attention in the deliberations of the conference, such
as conflicts in the Horn of Africa, displacement, asylum and migration crises,
and relations between the West and China.
The study concludes that this
year's Munich conference sheds light on many strategic issues that the world is
going through today. These emerging issues need concerted global efforts to
solve them instead of the heightened strategic competition between the the
players of the international system.
