Ahmad Askar has worked with several research centers and institutions in and outside Egypt including the Center for Strategic Studies - the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Faculty of African Graduate Studies – Cairo University, Journal of International Politics - Al-Ahram Foundation, Afaq Arabiyya Journal - State Information Service, and ZatMasr Foundation.
He has also contributed position papers, policy papers, and political alert papers to a number of executive bodies in Egypt and regional research institutions in the Arab world. In his research work, Ahmad Askar focuses on East Africa, the Horn of Africa, the Sahelo-Saharan region, water issues in the Nile basin, security and terrorism in Africa; in addition to his research interest in the issues of international and regional competition in Africa, and Arab/Gulf-Africa relations.
His Arabic book The Egyptian Policy toward the Horn of Africa since 2011: Case Studies of Egyptian Policy toward Ethiopia and Eritrea was published in 2020. He is currently pursuing his PhD degree in political science at Cairo University.
